πŸ‘ Hekiun no Mukashi Matcha by Marukyu Koyamaen

An all-around excellent example of quality matcha. Not expressly sophisticated or complex, but very reliable, albeit a little bitter.

The scent of the dry powder led me to expect to taste a bit of tartness, which never revealed itself.

The taste of the dry powder actually reminded me a bit of cream cheese or NeufchΓ’tel.

Once the water hit the powder, before whisking, the rising aromas hinted of subtle umami, and the slight scent of flat Mountain Dew… a muted sweet and citrusy mix.

As koicha, the taste was pleasantly bitter with subtle umami. I didn’t notice much sweetness until the aftertaste.

Usucha was primarily the same, but the bitterness was toned down and the lingering taste disappeared more quickly.

While this is too pricey for making lattes, it did fare well when mixed with oat milk nearly removing the bitterness but keeping the light umami.

Overall, this is a perfectly acceptable and high quality matcha. I likely won’t buy it again, but it was enjoyable nonetheless.
